Previous Porsche 928
From 2004 to 2007 I owned my first Porsche 928. It was an early model from 1979. I had always wanted a V8 engined car and one day on Ebay I happened across a 928 and my brain said - “Oooh a V8 and a Porsche”. From that point my purchase was inevitable. I scoured the web looking for info and found Angus’s 928.org site where I picked up a lot of great knowledge. I joined the 928 list and watched for a while before making my first post. Somebody suggested I go and meet a chap in Stroud called Paul Anderson who was a 928 guru.
I visited Paul with the intention of just getting a better understanding of what to look for when buying a 928. The “Dr” gave me the keys to his “courtesy” car and told me to take it for a spin. (possibly one of the best sales techniques I have ever experienced). I remember driving out towards the M5 and ringing my wife and saying “I can’t believe I’m driving a Porsche”
I returned to Paul’s yard and agreed a price with him and the rest, as they say, is history.
The car had something like 17 previous owners and had been well “used” as Paul’s courtesy car.
Previous Porsche 928 cont.
Over the years I did a fair amount to the car including a cheap and cheerful re-spray.
I joined the SWOOP group and we met up on regular meetings. We all went to Beaulieu where there was record gathering of around 120 plus 928’s. On the way home I had an oil radiator pipe fail and dumped many litres of oil on the M4 near junction 14. A fellow 928 owner stopped and helped me get help - the first of a number of rescue missions my long suffering wife made!
One claim to fame was that I received the brake cylinder assembly from the 928 Clarkson drove in the Porsche Challenge on Top Gear.
The car had one of the best sounds I have heard from a 928 with twin 3 inch pipes from the Rear Muffler Bypass (RMB) made and fitted by Paul.
After 3 years I decided to trade up to an S2 and sold the ‘79er to a a Jaguar enthusiast in Southampton recently I was contracted by the latest owner who had just shipped the car to Ireland.
